Rumor: iPhone 4G Spotted in The Wild

The net was a buzz this past weekend.  Engadget reported hey have found evidence of the iPhone 4G’s existence.  The details of the device spotted was quite uncertain at first, but now Gizmodo has weight in on the device.  Apparently the device was found on the floor of a bar in Redwood City. They were not able to get the device to boot initially.

Gizmodo got a hold of the device and they have posted all kinds of information about it, as well as many detailed pictures. The device seems to be legit so far. Gizmodo states that the device shows the “connect to iTunes” icon on the screen when plugged in and the device shows up as an iPhone in Xcode, as well as in the System Profiler.

“Apple-connected John Gruber—from Daring Fireball—says that Apple has indeed lost a prototype iPhone and they want it back.”

Like I said above, the device does seem to be legitimate. My only qualm is if this is real, where are the pictures of it turned on and connected to the computer? I want some screenshots!   There’s no doubt in my mind, that if this is completely real, then this has to be a prototype, it’s definitely not a production unit.
