Review: Warranty Status Apparatus – Check Your Mac Warranty With Ease

Whether you’re buying a used Mac online or wondering what the status of your warranty is..  There’s an app for that. Stefan Friesen developed an application called, “Pow!“, an application that let’s you stress test your machine to the maximum.  Within Pow!, there was a feature that allowed you to check the warranty status of your Mac or any other Mac out there that has a serial number.  Many folks praised this feature, so Stefan created a standalone application to check your warranty status with. That application is called Warranty Status Apparatus.

The main interface is fairly simple. Upon launching the application you’re greeted with a text box to input the serial number of the Mac’s warranty status you would like to see.  If you just want to check your personal warranty status, there’s a button for that. Just click the button and it’ll load your system information in the window displaying the status of your warranty and the time left on your warranty.

Once you enter in your serial number of the selected machine, the info is displayed in the darker portion of the application.

That’s about it.  The application has one purpose and I think it does as intended very well.  I use the application quite a bit. Especially when I am looking into used macs.  It’s always nice to find out if people are being truthful about their purchase dates and the warranty status.

You can download it for free here: Warranty Status Apparatus

    Hi Kelly,

I’m Stefan, the developer of Pow! and Warranty Status Apparatus. I just stumbled upon your article and wanted to thank you for the kind words.

I’m not sure if you’re still using Warranty Status, but if you are then you’ve no doubt noticed that it isn’t working properly anymore (unfortunately Apple changed their server location).

So I’ve completely re-written it in Objective-C, added a tonne of new features (hotkey to show / hide the search window, etc), took care of the bugs in the previous version, and revamped the user interface.

I’ve also moved it to a new website: http://www.beardycode.com

Anyway, the app is currently in beta. Just thought I’d let you know!
