App Review: TravelTracker Pro for iPhone and iPod touch

Some might call me a seasoned traveler. However, most wouldn’t, because I don’t travel a ton. However, when I DO travel, I indeed like to be organized and ready for any speedbumps that might occur. Carrying reservation papers around is frustrating, inconvenient and stupid-looking.

A much better way of doing this, is a travel app for your iPhone. I’ve found a particularly good one, named TravelTracker Pro. There are two versions of “TravelTracker”. TravelTracker is free, and you can add on features you want using the In-App Purchase feature. You can add on TripIt integration (very useful), weather features, and various other functions.

Application home screen

Upon opening TravelTracker, you’re presented with a nice, simple, page that lists your upcoming trips, and a few options. Tap on one of your trips to get all of your plans.

Dates and flight numbers redacted

You’re presented with a list of your plans, including:

  • Flights
  • Car rentals
  • Ground transportation
  • Ferries
  • Cruises
  • Train Ride
  • Hotels
  • Drives
  • Meetings
  • and dining.

There’s a very nice weather function that gives you current airport weather conditions.

TravelTracker offers a very large selection of various airports, as well as the ability to import your trip from TripIt, so if you have a large complex trip, you don’t have to spend the next eighty-seven weeks of your life entering your entire trip – it’s all taken care of in a few minutes with the ease of TripIt, an excellent online travel management service.

I remember eying this app quite a while ago, back in 2009. I passed on it, because it was $19.99. It didn’t include any of the special features, like TripIt integration, weather, expense tracking, live flight status, packing lists, weather, all great features in the current Pro version. The current version of this app, without any of those features, is completely free, with the rest as optional addons. With all of those, the app is $8.99, which is a pretty good value because it integrates a very large amount of features that are useful to business and casual travelers alike. I highly recommend this application, and rate it 4.5/5, winning in the areas of features, stability and design, but getting docked marks due to a relatively high price.

Pros:

  • Nicely designed application
  • Powerful, with many features
  • A well done feature add-on system for those who don’t need it all
  • Solid performance/stable

Cons:

  • Price

A version for iPad is also available.
