Steve Jobs took the stage just a few minutes ago, he said today was so exciting, he had to be here to announce the new product himself. He just announced the Apple iPad 2. The device features and all new design, Dual Core A5 chip which boasts up to 2x’s faster cpu, 9x’s faster graphics processing, same low power as the A4 chip. The iPad 2 also features a slimmer design, up to 33% thinner than it’s predecessor, 13.4mm to 8.8mm, it now weighs 1.3 pounds vs the 1.5 pounds the iPad 1 weighed, it’s even thinner than the iPhone 4! There’s also a gyroscope like the iPhone 4 and iPod Touch 4. The iPad 2 will also work on Verizon and AT&T networks. It’s going to have the same amazing battery life as the first version. The iPad 2 also features dual video cameras, one on the front and one on the back, which are capable of FaceTime with up to 9 live video streams at once, Photobooth, and HD video capture.
The iPad 2 is set to come in two colors, white and black. They plan on shipping the white one on day one. The ship date will be March 11th 2011! They are going to go for the same price as the iPad 1, so that’s; $499 for 16gb wifi – $599 for 32gb, $699 64gb WiFi and the 3g models will be $629 for 16gb, $729 for $32gb, and $829 for 64gb.
Along with the iPad 2, Apple is going to release a new case and an HDMI cable that outputs 1080p and works with all apps! The HDMI cable supports mirrored video output, supports rotation, charge the iPad while using it, the price for the cable will be $39.
The new case / cover is a flap that covers the front of the device, it has magnets that grasp the iPad’s front, has a micro-fiber inner lining, wakes the iPad up when you open it, puts the iPad to sleep when you close it, it’s easy to remove and change, comes in a wide varitey of colors and it’s foldable so you can put the cover into many viewing angles. You can transform it into a wedge to type on, a stand to watch videos on. The cover will also be available in leather or polyurethane. The polyurethane cases will cost $39, the leather will cost $69.
