Apple Begins Countdown To 25 Billion App Store Downloads! 10K At Stake

countdown to 25 billion

Earlier today Apple initiated a countdown to 25 billion App Store downloads.  Can you believe there’s been nearly 25 billion downloads? That is pretty crazy to imagine how many apps really exist in the App Store. You can throw numbers around all day, but to physically see that data must be pretty mind boggling.

The fun doesn’t stop with Apple just showing off a pretty countdown image, there’s also some prizes to be had. Whomever downloads the 25 billionth application will win $10,000 dollars (ten Gs!) toward iTunes credit! That pretty much means you’ll be set for life if you’re the winner.  Think about all the music, movies and apps you’ll be able to download with ten grand!

Apple also set up a contest submission form for those of you that might not want to download any apps to increase your odds. We’re assuming they might be having a tiny raffle or something for the form submissions, we’re not too sure. The form submissions might only be based on the time you submit your entree. Either way you will get up to 25 chances per day to win.

Here’s the official statement from Apple.

As of today, nearly 25 billion apps have been downloaded worldwide. Which is almost as amazing as the apps themselves. So we want to say thanks. Download the 25 billionth app, and you could win a US$10,000 App Store Gift Card.* Just visit the App Store and download your best app yet.

You can visit the official count down page here and submit your entree, or see how close they are to 25 billion.  Good luck!
